L'elémi évoque la fragrance de l'oliban, avec un arôme unique de bois vert et d'agrumes, balsamique et poivré. En parfumerie, l'elémi est une note de tête ou de cœur et, exceptionnellement, possède une qualité fixatrice. Son arôme est également connu pour ses qualités transcendantes et on le retrouve dans divers mélanges d'encens et de méditation.
